As a child, I was captivated by a game called Tonka Construction. For anyone unfamiliar, it was a virtual playground for budding builders and designers. Each project began with an empty plot of land, soon filled with activity as foundations were poured, walls rose, and finishing touches appeared to complete the structure. The game allowed me to follow each stage from the ground up, and the thrill of seeing an idea take form was utterly fascinating.

Reflecting on it now, Tonka was more than just a game; it was an early introduction to the fundamentals of design, teaching me about patience, progression, and the satisfaction of bringing a vision to life. Each project had its own theme and purpose, challenging me to think of the steps needed to make something cohesive. That sense of curiosity I felt, that delight in seeing a concept materialize, is something I carry with me to this day.

In my work now, I draw on that same excitement to approach each project. Every concept feels like its own adventure, an opportunity to translate ideas into spaces that people will experience, interact with, and remember. I’ve realized that design isn’t just about the final product; it’s about understanding the process, appreciating the craft, and recognizing the joy in each stage.

Tonka Construction taught me one of the most valuable lessons in design: that creativity is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. Every space holds the potential to inspire, connect, and even surprise; and it’s that transformation that continues to drive me forward.
